Named for a trapper, Étienne Provost, who worked the area in the mid-1820s, Provo is just 43 miles south of Salt Lake City and the county seat of Utah County. It is also the home of Brigham Young University, a private school owned buy The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Provo has a population of more than 112,000 with 98 percent members of the LDS Church.
An industrious area, Provo is the center of high tech development with several billion dollars in industry startups. It was the second city in the nation to install Google fiber and was a location for the 2002 Winter Olympics with its Peaks ice Arena. Skiing is nearby with Sundance resort just 13 miles away accessed through Provo Canyon.
The median price for a home in Provo is less than $300,000 with an average price of about $562,000, according to the Wasatch Front Multiple Listing Service. Surprisingiy the lowest price home was less than $45,000 with the highest topping $18.5 million.
